1987 | Creation of Homeocan: the birth of a natural company
Before creating Homeocan, Michèle Boisvert, active president, was already known as one of the first woman pharmacists to own her own pharmacy in Quebec.
It is through her contacts and experiences with her customers that came to understand that alternative and natural medicine, such as Homeopathy, was her preferred answer to their question: how to heal naturally?
A pharmacy graduate from the Université de Montréal, audacious, courageous and enterprising, she decides to meet the demand of her clients by manufacturing her own homeopathic remedies. A few months later, the demand is so strong that she founds Homeocan, her tiny company that will later become the Canadian leader in Homeopathy.
Dr. Joseph Roy, a French homeopathic physician discovered Anas Barbaria in the 1920s. During a study on the treatment of flu symptoms, he observed the effect of different substances, including duck heart and liver autolyzate of Barbariae. It was demonstrated that these autolysates did not contain any particular germ. Nevertheless, after dilution and potentization to the 200th Korsakovian, this preparation was very effective in the prevention and treatment of flu symptoms. Later, the scientific community also noted that different types of migratory birds could be vectors of respiratory illnesses and in particular carriers of the influenza virus. Is this a coincidence?
It is therefore quite natural that our Homeopathy experts have developed our own formulas. Homeocoksinum, the homeopathic flu killer, which corresponds to the Canadian Oscillococcinum. Based on these observations, we were able to innovate by supplementing with the night formula in which we added two natural ingredients which provide better sleep without causing drowsiness : Chamomile and Coffea cruda.
1993 | Creation of Homeolab: Canadian Homeopathy in the United States
Building on her experiences and success in the Canadian market, Michèle Boisvert sets out to conquer the American market. It is with audacity and will that Homeocan thus launches its Homeolab counterpart in the United States. The products are sold throughout the United States through national pharmacy networks. This adventure will be precursory to the future international expansion of Homeocan.
As the company is growing rapidly, now is the time to grow. Thanks to the dedicated team in place since the creation of Homeocan, the laboratories are completely moved in one weekend. The entire company transits from the space above the pharmacy of Michèle Boisvert on Papineau in Montreal, to a warehouse of more than 23,000 square feet on the boulevard de l’Assomption!
Always keen to provide natural solutions for the whole family, our experts in Homeopathy have developed a family of products formulated for children aged 0 to 12 years. That’s how we launched the Kids 0-9 range. A whole range of symptoms are covered by this line which has the advantage of being gluten-free, without side effects, without drowsiness and natural. Just like our all homeopathic remedies, Kids 0-9 uses the mechanisms inherent in the body to relieve the disease of toddlers.
