Description
Benchmark Alkalinity Test Kit is the reef dKH test kit we built for our own coral farm: fast, easy to use, affordable enough for frequent testing, and tuned so the amount of titrant used converts directly to alkalinity.
We have been running versions of this kit at New Dawn Aquaculture for the past year. After a lot of farm use and refinement, this production version brings together Benchmark chemistry, 3D printed packaging, UV-laser engraving, and the kind of reliable routine testing that supports healthier coral systems.
Key Details
- 100 alkalinity tests included right out of the box
- 0-20 dKH testing range
- Fast blue-to-red titration endpoint
- Simple calculation: dKH = mL of Reagent B used x 10
- Built-in printed and laser-engraved storage/display case
Kit Includes
- Reagent A alkalinity indicator
- Reagent B alkalinity titrant
- Benchmark glass 5 mL test vial
- Benchmark 1 mL syringe with dispensing tip
- Benchmark 5 mL syringe
- Custom matte black PLA printed storage and display case with UV-laser engraved Benchmark artwork
Test Procedure
- Rinse the test vial with aquarium water.
- Add 5.00 mL of aquarium water to the vial.
- Add 2 drops of Reagent A.
- Swirl gently. The sample should turn blue.
- Fill the 1 mL syringe with Reagent B titrant.
- Add Reagent B slowly while swirling.
- Stop at the first stable colour change from blue to red.
- Record how many mL of Reagent B were used.
Calculation
dKH = mL of Reagent B used x 10
Example: if you use 0.80 mL of Reagent B, the result is 8.0 dKH.
Recommended Reef Range
Many reef aquariums are maintained around 7.0 to 9.5 dKH, depending on the system, coral demand, salt mix, and dosing approach.
Tips for Best Accuracy
- Read syringes at eye level.
- Swirl continuously as you approach the endpoint.
- Add Reagent B slowly near the colour change.
- Repeat the test if the endpoint is difficult to judge.
- Rinse the vial and syringes with fresh water after testing.
For saltwater aquarium testing only. Store reagents sealed and out of reach of children.
