Women today are conscious of the need to restrict their contact with synthetic materials and unnecessary chemicals and additives. They are becoming more aware that most of the widely available sanitary pads sold today, contain a blend of chlorine-bleached pulp, polypropylene, polyacrylates and plastic.
For each monthly cycle, it makes sense to choose a pad that is made from natural materials. Many gynaecologists have advised women with sensitive skin to use Natracare pads to reduce their contact with chlorine bleached materials, and also products containing synthetics, latex and super absorbents made from petrochemicals. Every year, billions of plastic laden pads are disposed of, and generally they end up in landfill sites to sit unaltered for hundreds of years. Every year, in Britain alone, we would have to dig a hole three hundred feet deep and three hundred feet wide to bury the sanitary pads that are thrown away.

Natracare chemical free pads are high quality products made from only pure and natural materials that are made from plant cellulose. They are not chlorine bleached and are free of rayon, plastics and other similar synthetic materials that have a negative impact on our environment. They are comfortable and reliable and available in different absorbencies and styles. The regular pad is narrower towards the middle of the pad so that it fits the contours of the body more readily, whilst the Slender and Super pads are the same width all along the pad’s length for a more traditional fit. The Ultra with wings is a slim pad with the added protection of wings. They are individually wrapped so that they can be kept discretely in your bag.

All Natracare pads are commercially compostable to EN 13432 and ASTM D6400. This means our pads break down into organic matter and return to soil when composted, so less waste to worry about. It's also possible to compost at home.

We're recommended by health professionals and are suitable for sensitive skin or those with allergies. Natracare helps reduce exposure to synthetic materials and ingredients, including plastic, perfume and dyes that're often found in conventional period products.

Why use wood pulp inside of the pads?

We never use chemically processed pulp (such as rayon, aka viscose) or synthetic materials in our pads. Instead, we use fluffed wood pulp in the absorbent core of our pads. Our pulp is sustainably sourced from fast-growing Scandinavian pine trees—which are very absorbent! We mechanically process the wood to make it soft and fluffy—this fibre structure is more absorbent than using cotton alone. Cellulose pulp is natural and renewable and a more sustainable alternative than superabsorbent polymers (SAPs) found in many conventional pads.

The pad cover is made from certified organic cotton, which sits next to the skin, acting as a soft cover to wick away leaks.

How to dispose of Natracare pads?

Natracare pads are commercially compostable to EN 13432 where facilities exist. It's also possible to compost our pads at home. If you don’t have a compost bin, pads should be disposed of with your regular waste.

Cautions

Although Natracare Natural Ultra Pads are made from organic materials, if you have allergies to cotton, cellulose, or other natural fibers, we recommend consulting with your healthcare provider before use. For optimal hygiene, change your pad every 3-4 hours, and dispose of used pads responsibly. If composting is an option, Natracare pads can be commercially composted or composted at home to reduce environmental impact.
