Benefits
WHOLE FOOD VEGAN VITAMIN D SOURCE
Botanica's Vitamin D Capsules are made from organic Portobello mushrooms. When mushrooms are exposed to sunlight, they produce Vitamin D. This whole food also provides additional nutrients such as B vitamins and minerals that help to increase the assimilation and efficacy of the Vitamin D. Botanica's portobello mushrooms are sustainably grown with very little water and electricity needed, and the soil is recycled into potting soil. Each vegan capsule contains 2500 IU of Vitamin D.

Is vitamin D2 as well absorbed as vitamin D3?
There exists some controversy on ergocalciferol (D2) and cholecalciferol (D3) in terms of their abilities to raise 25-hydroxy D (25(OH)D) levels, the best indicator of Vitamin D status. Some of this controversy is related to synthetic Vitamin D2, which is not the case for Botanica capsules. Here is a study summary on the topic of absorption for D2 vs D3 [1]: Both forms are effective, and in the long term, D2 appears to be most effective when given daily and D3 appears to be most effective when given 2-weekly. Females appear to mount larger 25(OH)D response to D2 than males.
