How do I treat a vaginal yeast infection?
You can easily and effectively treat a vaginal yeast infection at home with Canesten® treatments, available without a prescription. You can also try a combination treatment to cure the internal infection and relieve the external symptoms.
What is a combination treatment for vaginal yeast infection?
Combination treatments are a 2-in-1 complete treatment for a VYI. All combination treatments include either a Canesten® internal treatment (vaginal tablet or vaginal cream) or a CanesOral® oral treatment, plus an external treatment (a tube of cream). Combination treatments treat both the cause and the symptoms of a yeast infection for complete relief.
Do I need a prescription for Canesten® treatments?
No. Canesten® treatments for a vaginal yeast infection are conveniently available in your local pharmacy or grocery store pharmacy.
Can I use Canesten® treatments if I’m pregnant?
Talk to a doctor or pharmacist before using Canesten® if you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant.
What time of day can I use Canesten® treatments for yeast infections?
Canesten® vaginal treatments are best when applied before you go to bed, as you can expect some leakage with the product use. For best results, lie down as soon as possible after inserting the vaginal products. This will reduce leakage. You may want to use panty liners to protect your clothing during the time you are using Canesten®.
No, you can eat and drink normally while using Canesten® treatments.
Can I have sex while treating a yeast infection?
It's best to avoid sex until the VYI has cleared up. VYIs are not usually transmitted through sexual relations, even though a small percentage of male partners do have infections at the same time.
It is important to know that Canesten® may reduce the effectiveness of some birth control methods, such as condoms, diaphragms or vaginal spermicides. This effect is temporary and occurs only during treatment.
What should I do if my symptoms don’t go away after treatment?
If there was no improvement in your symptoms in 3 days or if they did not disappear within 7 days, you might not have a vaginal yeast infection. Discontinue further treatment and consult your doctor.
