Husk & Seeds
Provides gentle relief of constipation or irregularity
Psyllium by Omega Alpha® used in herbal medicine to provide a gentle relief of constipation and/or irregularity and as a bulk-forming laxative.
Features
- HELPS MAINTAIN REGULARITY/EASE CONSTIPATION: The Psyllium seed comes from a plant known as Plantago ovato, which is native to southern and western Asia. The seed is covered by psyllium husk, which is a rich source of viscous soluble fiber (the type that absorbs water to form a gel). Studies have shown that Psyllium can be used as a bulk-forming laxative. It works by increasing stool size and therefore helps relieve constipation.
- HELPS WITH LOWERING CHOLESTEROL LEVELS: Psyllium is able to bind to fat and bile acids, which promotes their excretion from your body. In the process of replacing these lost bile acids, the liver uses cholesterol to produce more. As a result, blood cholesterol levels decrease. Psyllium can lower total cholesterol levels by promoting the removal of bile acids from the body. It has been shown to lower LDL cholesterol and increase HDL cholesterol significantly.
- HAS A PREBIOTIC EFFECT: Prebiotics are non-digestible compounds that nourish intestinal bacteria and help them grow. Psyllium is considered to have prebiotic effects. Studies have shown that although psyllium is somewhat resistant to fermentation, a small portion of psyllium fibers can be fermented by intestinal bacteria. This fermentation can produce short-chain fatty acids (SCFA), which have been linked to health benefits.
